Review of the Title 24 Standards for airtight ducts, test and documentation requirements, plus hands-on experience operating duct tester, flow hood, digital manometer, and blower door equipment. Course provides a full explanation of UL181 requirements, approved materials, installation criteria, sealing and testing requirements, and duct installation. Students will receive binders with resource materials.

Bill Bordass and Adrian Leaman of the Usable Buildings Trust - internationally recognized authorities on building performance evaluation - will describe the value of feedback and post-occupancy evaluation (POE), the lessons which have emerged, and the ways in which feedback could be made a routine part of project delivery.

Mark Hydeman, the lead for development of the Title 24 2005 Non-Residential Energy Standard requirements for mechanical systems, will explain new Title 24 requirements. The Standards also include new forms that are significantly different from the previous versions requiring documentation of where system performance is called for on the plans and specifications. These Standards take effect early in 2005. Learn about them now or wait and learn about them later when you fail to get a permit.

Two natural building methods are currently undergoing renewed popularity. Cob is an ancient technique using a mixture of earth, sand and straw; it requires only simple handtools and can easily be shaped into imaginative structures. Strawbales are highly insulative and create an Old World character of thick walls and deepset windows. The methods are gaining building code approval in many communities.
